We interrupt your usual fare of book updates and such for a peek inside this writer’s general life, wherein we learn that nobody is perfect, and it doesn’t matter if it looks pretty so long as it’s tasty.
Now, don’t be confused and think I joined the quarantine sourdough craze! I’ve been making my own bread for years, and baking is one of my favorite past times, right after cooking, and eating all of the delightful goodies I make of course.
I am, however, using a new method and recipe from a delightful little British man teaching all kinds of bread tips under the name Bake with Jack. I’ve been loving his tutorials as much as his accent.
I had some great success with his sourdough starter method (which is loads easier than I was taught way back when), but working with a high hydration dough was a bit new to me and I definitely did not get the oven spring I wanted. Also new to me was baking in a Dutch oven, which had decent results texture-wise, but I wonder if the people saying it’s fine not to preheat your Dutch oven have ever really compared the two results.
Anyhow, on to the pictures!
As you can see, it wasn’t the most perfect loaf, but that was okay! It was still incredibly tasty and went great with dinner that night. And as a midnight snack, and with breakfast, and… Yeah, it’s all gone now, and I need to make another.
If you like this sort of thing, make sure you’re following me on Instagram where I share random pics like these more often.
p.s. Oath of the Alpha is coming along and I can’t wait to share it with you guys! I’m also super excited for what’s coming after that, but you’ll just have to wait until I spill the beans on that one.
